Shakira teams up with beau's Spanish soccer team for charity

Waka Waka’ singer Shakira has teamed up with her boyfriend Gerard Pique’s Spanish soccer team for a new charity mission.

The 34-year-old star’s ‘Barefoot Foundation’ has merged with Pique’s club ‘FC Barcelona’, to fund and better support YMCA educational programmes for Hispanic youths in Miami, Florida.

“Hispanics in the United States have everything to gain. We have the talent, we have the will,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“I truly think that with more education and more sports, we can achieve the unthinkable. We can have the ball on our side of the court,” she added.

Shakira is a hit in Mexico

Colombian singer Shakira enchanted some 150,000 fans in Mexico, at a concert where she paid tribute to the US group Metallica by interpreting their hit "Nothing else matters".

People enjoyed an evening of her hits and other numbers lasting almost two hours in the southeastern city of Merida, reports the Spanish news agency EFE.

Accompanied by her boyfriend, soccer player Gerard Pique, the South American pop rock star went onstage and greeted the excited crowd with "Good evening, Merida! Tonight is yours!"

She then launched into a broad repertoire of her songs including "Pies descalzos", "Te dejo Madrid", "Hips don't lie", "La tortura", "Loba" and "Antes de las seis".

The concert wrapped up with Shakira's famous hit "Waka waka", which she popularized during the 2010 World Cup tourney in South Africa.

The crowning moment of the evening was when Shakira, along with her band, performed "Nothing else matters", one of the big hits by the US heavy metal band.

I wanted to find a way of expressing the feeling of pure happiness through the medium of fragrance

"It's similar to the process you go through when writing a melody: certain chord combinations inspire different feelings in the listener. I wanted to find a way of expressing the feeling of pure happiness through the medium of fragrance."

The fragrance - the second by the Columbian-born star - is described as "uplifting" and combines jasmine and heliotrope flower with fresh notes of bergamot and cassis, sweet wild fruits, musk and vanilla.

S by Shakira Eau Florale will retail at between $17 and $35 when it is released in September.

Egyptians want Shakira boycott after Israel speech

Shakira may have vowed "Whenever, Wherever" with the first hit of her career, but if protesters have their way she will have to take Cairo off her list.

The musician is the subject of a Facebook campaign to stop her performing in Egypt in November, launched after she spoke at President Shimon Peres's conference in Jerusalem.

According to Egypt’s al-Dostor newspaper, several Facebook pages have been set up including one named "No to Shakira concert in Egypt after she went to Israel".

Some of the protesters also want Shakira banned from entering the country because she now has an Israeli stamp on her passport.

The singer, who is of Lebanese descent, has never played a concert in Israel, whereas she performed in Egypt three years ago.

While in Israel last week, she spoke of her desire to see the world work together on problems such as education. She said she had respect and "great affection" for both the Israelis and Palestinians.

Colombian pop singer Shakira promoted her global education campaign with a stop at a joint Israeli-Arab school in Jerusalem on Tuesday.

Kicking off Israel's third annual Presidential Conference with a plea for children's education worldwide, Shakira, a U.N. goodwill ambassador, said the Holy Land was the "perfect place to talk about how urgent it is to invest in education."

"The most crucial decision we can make for a better tomorrow is how we educate our children," she said, speaking alongside her host, Israeli President Shimon Peres.

"How wonderful it would be if the world would act like a team. We have so many challenges ahead of us, so many problems to solve," she said. "This is the time to behave like a team, to wear the same T-shirts and to win the match of discrimination, to win the match of inequality and segregation."

Shakira was the most high-profile international guest to take part in Peres' third annual "Israeli Presidential Conference" -- an event that attracted 1,700 figures from outside Israel.

The diverse guest list ranged from U.S. comedian Sarah Silverman to Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, European Central Bank chief Jean-Claude Trichet and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Shakira, Wales, SIlverman offer recipes for tomorrow

Pop star Shakira joined Israeli President Shimon Peres to open the third Israeli Presidential Conference, titled "Facing Tomorrow."

"The best decisions we can make for a better tomorrow are those about educating and caring for our children," said Shakira, a Columbian singer, whose father is Lebanese, and who serves as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. "Israel is the perfect place to discuss education and our future because it is the melting pot, the location where all nations and religions were born. We are all inheritors of Abrahamic culture, therefore we are all Israel."

Tuesday's opening session also included Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and comedian Sarah Silverman.

In presenting her recipe for a better tomorrow, Sarah Silverman, the American comedian, writer, actress, singer and musician, noted that the differences between Israelis and Palestinians is not as great as thought to be. "My recipe for a better tomorrow would be to raise an entire generation without hate," she said. "The solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a simple 'buddy movie formula.' If you have these two hostile entities, find a common goal, and work together to fulfill it, in the end they will realize that they have much in common."

Wales called for harnessing technology in order give the young generation a voice.

More than 4,000 Jewish and world leaders are in Israel for the three-day conference.

This is the first visit to Israel for Shakira, who was urged in a Facebook page liked by about 2,000 people to cancel her trip.

Shakira laughs away pregnancy rumours

Colombian singer Shakira came to Frankfurt to sign an agreement with the German Ministry for Development to support her foundation, Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet Foundation), which raises money for poor children.

Shakira founded the foundation in 1995. It is a Colombian charity, which supports special schools for poor children in Quibdó (a city on the Pacific coast of Colombia) and Barranquilla, Shakira's home town.

But it was another question altogether that interested the world media.

According to Reuters, Shakira, who is dating Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, laughed when asked about the rumours of her pregnancy. After the singer had to cancel a concert in Almeria earlier this month for health reasons, Spanish media set the rumour mill buzzing. Shakira, however, kept schtum and let her flat belly answer the question.

The Grammy-winning pop star is in Frankfurt for her delayed concert from "The Sun Comes Out" tour. The singer was forced to cancel the Frankfurt gig last year, when the ash cloud forced airports across Europe to close.

Never one to shy away from controversy - the Colombian singer has caused yet another stir with her latest video "Rabiosa" - or more specifically, with her looks (a brown wig over her blonde tresses) and her dancing (pole, in very sexy underwear).

The track "Rabiosa" - the Spanish word for rabid - features rap star Pitbull (who also produced with Usher and Jennifer Lopez) and some rather saucy lyrics. The song is taken from her current album, "Sale el Sol" which already sold over four million copies.

For Shakira fans, this news promises to be exciting. Although the singer’s date with Bollywood has been going awry for some time now, debutant actor-producer Sachin Joshi insists she might still be crooning for his film, Azaan, soon. “But I think I should comment on it only when the deal
comes through. Although other producers have also talked about roping in Shakira for their films, she has always been my first priority since the inception of Azaan. And I am very hopeful about roping her in. The deal should happen,” says Joshi.

For the uninitiated, Azaan, a film that marks the debut of gutka baron Jagdish Joshi’s son Sachin, also stars Playboy model Candice Boucher. Last year too, there were talks about Shakira singing a cabaret style song with Latin influences under composer duo Salim-Sulaiman’s guidance. But the deal apparently fell through.

Shakira“We are constantly in touch with Shakira’s team and are in the final stages of negotiations with her,” says Sachin, who shares screen space with the South African model Candice in the espionage thriller. But Sachin rubbishes talks that Candice will be seen in a sultry avatar. “Director Prashant (Chadha) felt that she fit the part. Candice doesn’t have any acting experience but she’s done a stupendous job. Just because she is a Playboy girl doesn’t mean that we’d ask her to expose without any reason. Excited about his maiden outing as an actor, Sachin says, “It was an awesome experience to work with a foreign crew. Here's some great news to start the week - Shakira was a double winner at last night's Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, picking up the prizes for Top Latin Artist and Top Latin Song (for Waka Waka).

Shakira considering doing songs in Arabic

Colombian pop singer Shakira said Saturday she would one day like to sing pop songs, if not an entire album, in Arabic.

The native Spanish speaker, who also has global hits in English, was speaking at a news conference in Morocco, where she was headlining the Mawazine World Rhythms music festival.

"It would be a challenge to do an album in Arabic. I would first have to learn Arabic," she said. "I am completely open to that experience. ... At some point I would love that to happen in my life."

Born in Colombia of Syrian origin, Shakira said she grew up listening to the Arab world's premier divas of the 20th century, Egyptian Umm Kalthum and Lebanese Fairuz.

Shakira often uses eastern dance, also known as belly dancing, in her acts, and her hit Spanish language single "Ojas Asi" relies heavily on a Middle Eastern melody. Her eastern origins and musical influences have made her popular throughout the Middle East.

She admitted, however, that she only speaks a few words of Arabic, including "ateeni boosa" or give me a kiss, provoking laughter among the mostly Moroccan crowd of journalists.

Morocco's 10th-annual Mawazine festival of world music concluded Saturday after eight days of music that saw bands from 60 countries, including Kanye West, Lionel Ritchie, Egypt's Amr Diab and Senegal's Youssou N'Dour.

Barca squad to celebrate with Shakira

Barcelona's players will go to a Shakira concert in Barcelona on Sunday to celebrate their Champions League victory, the Colombian pop star's boyfriend, Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, said on Twitter.

"Champions!! Champions!! thank you so much!!" Pique wrote on his Twitter account Saturday after a thilling 3-1 win over Manchester United in London's Wembley Stadium.

"Tomorrow at Barcelona and then the players will go to @shakira concert in the Olympic Stadium!!"

The 24-year-old Pique, a former Manchester United player, met the singer last year while shooting the video to her song "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" -- the official track of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which was won by Spain.

In January Shakira, 34, announced the end of her 11-year relationship with Argentine lawyer Antonio de la Rua and shortly after gossip magazines began speculating that she was dating Pique.

The singer confirmed her romantic relationship with the Spanish international footballer in March through a message posted on her Twitter account that was accompanied by a photo of the smiling pair.

Shakira, a four-time Grammy award winner, is playing in Barcelona on Sunday as part of her "Sale el sol (The sun is coming out)" tour, which takes her to a string of Spanish venues including Madrid on June 3.

Shakira Bumps Oprah Off Twitter Top 10 List

At last, there is one thing that Oprah is not dominating! It seems as though Shakira bumped Oprah off the Twitter top 10 list this week.

You’d think with all the attention surrounding her final shows that Oprah would climb in followers. Maybe her demographic isn’t vested in the twitter world, though. Most of her fans are older woman, so I’ll give her some slack. Well, congrads to Shakira for beating out Oprah – doesn’t happen very often.
